Two female National Youth Service Corps members, Amarachi Okey Winifred, a Batch C corps member and her friend, a fresh batch B corps member who recently left camp, were recently burnt beyond recognition by one of the victim’s boyfriend last month.
The victims, both serving in Community Secondary school Iddo in Asari-Toru LGA of Rivers State, were said to be locked in after he had poured fuel and then set the room on fire.
The incident was first reported on July 19, but the name of the other corps member could not be ascertained at the time of the report. The attackers were initially thought to be some community boys and students in their place of primary assignment (ppa) but the story turned out to be different.
Reports say:
It turned out that Winifred was burned by her boyfriend because he felt she was cheating on him with a fellow corps member. A corper who stayed in the same hostel with Winnie in camp related the events.
“He thought she would be the only one in the room, he locked the door from outside, put petrol and lit the fire. Unfortunately, a friend of Winifred was also in the room.
She’s a Batch B corps member who just left camp some weeks ago. But, unfortunately for the boyfriend, he burnt his hands in the process. That was how he was identified and caught.”
“In camp she was always scared whenever he called and she missed it and all.”
After the incident, the victims were both taken to the Intensive care unit (ICU) of UNIPORT Teaching Hospital due to the critical nature of the burns. The victims did not survive the burns. Winifred died on the morning of July 31. The perpetrator however, has since been caught by the police.
We live in a wicked world full of wicked people.

In today’s competitive job market, even getting a job interview can prove to be difficult. So, when you eventually get an interview, you want to make sure that you do everything you can to absolutely ace it. All too often, people can mess up the interview with ill-chosen comments, and before they know it, they’re job hunting again. But with the right job interview training and tips of what not to say in a job interview, you will significantly improve your chances of getting the job.
Bad Answers Here are a few things you shouldn’t say:
Question: Why do you want the job?
This is your opportunity to show how the interviewer how passionate you are about the job position. Highlight a good reason why you want the job by for example relating it to your education or background and state what it is you can bring to the job.
Don’t answer with: “Because my mum told me to” or “Because it will pay for the rent while I look for a job that I really want to do” – Here, you are immediately proving to the interviewer that you do not actually want the job and you will not benefit or bring anything to the company in anyway.
Question: What do you like to do in your spare time? This question gives you the opportunity to show the interviewer what your interests are, allowing them to get to know your personality a little bit more.
Don’t answer with: “Going to the pub” or “sleeping” – Employers like it when people can talk passionately about their own interests as it helps them to better understand you as a person. Instead of saying “going to the pub” talk about some social activities you enjoy doing, such as a hobby where you’re part of a club or team.
Question: What do you expect to enjoy most about this role? This question allows you to let the interviewer know that you have done your research and understand exactly what will be required of the job role. State the key aspects of the specific role that you are most excited about.
Don’t answer with: Listing the perks of the jobs such as “ lunchtimes,” “pay,” “discounts,” or “holidays” – This immediately shows that you’re not hard working and that you’re not actually very interested in the job role.
Question: Where do you see yourself in five years? This is your opportunity to show the interviewer that you are serious about the industry you are interviewing for and allows you to tell them how you want to progress in the next few years.
Don’t answer with: “I see myself doing your job”- Don’t threaten your interviewer with the idea that you are planning on taking their job in the future. Although you might eventually get a position similar to your interviewer in the future, saying this will give the impression that you already think you’re better than your interviewer, and arrogance is not an employable attribute to have.
Bad Questions Here are some questions you shouldn’t ask:
“Do you really do that? I didn’t know that!” – Here, you’re immediately showing your interviewer that you haven’t done your homework and researched the company before your interview.
“Do I have to wear that uniform?” –
Questions like this show the interviewer that you have a poor attitude and you care more about what you look like rather than the actual job role.
“Is it okay if I just take this call?” – This highlights to the interviewer that you are not serious about the interview and are more interested in your personal life, demonstrating that you are unprofessional as well as rude.
“What’s the holiday and sickness policy?” –
Before you’ve even got the job, you’re showing the interviewer that you’re planning your days off. Asking about sickness also shows the employer that you’re likely to have a lot of time off work. Bad Statements Here are some statements you should avoid:
“Sorry I’m late.” – You’re immediately demonstrating to the interviewer that you are unreliable and have poor time management. The last thing they want is someone rocking up to work half an hour late every morning.
“I didn’t like my previous employer.” –
Even if this is the case, this is something the interviewer does not need to know. It can reflect badly on your character and is unprofessional. Finally, don’t swear in the interview, it’s in formal and very unprofessional.

Managing small IT service business profitably
It is a known fact that most businesses these days cannot do without one aspect of ICT or the other. So, would you consider money spent on IT as good, long-term investment or perhaps simply an uncalled-for expense? When put to optimum use, IT undoubtedly has the potential to help your customers become more responsive, thus helping your small business to grow, especially when compared to what is presently achieved through the traditional way of doing business.
As we all know, all good things in life come at a price; so does good IT service. It is a specialised field. The one place where you can best find the necessary guidance and information that your small business needs is through a well-entrenched and reputable provider of IT services. These strategies might be of help in properly managing your IT services:
1. Predictable service and costs For businesses that do not need or have an in-house IT presence, hiring outsourced provider of IT services is a popular way of allowing yourself and your staff to get the necessary support at a monthly recurrent cost that is both affordable as well as predictable. With the aid of tools that are readily available today, Managed Service Provider (MSP), can resourcefully provide a higher service level for the daily IT occurrences of your small business, in addition to both managing as well as monitoring its backend systems on a 24/7 basis. MSPs offer an extensive range of programmes designed to cover almost every perceivable IT aspect of your small business. They include taking a start from a server remote and end user support; managed disaster recovery; backup and anti-virus programmes to programmes based on cloud; you can easily liaise with a suitable MSP to fashion a package that is ideal for you and your small business. My suggestion is that small businesses should leverage ICT by employing this strategy.
2. Seamless transition Opting to change the technology being currently employed by your business is likely to produce fair amount of stress. For a start, it will be necessary to thoroughly research options that are available and then hope the one you select is also the most suitable for your purpose. After that, you will need to implement your new programme or system. Perhaps, you may even need to train most of your existing workers on the use of this new technology, especially with the intent of ensuring that none of the business operations of your enterprise is unduly interfered with. In the case of businesses that are not specifically associated with the IT business, this could perhaps turn out to be somewhat of an intimidating but largely unavoidable circumstance. Under circumstances such as these, it will certainly be worthwhile to count more on a reputable provider of IT services. Their experts specialise in researching new and better technologies. They can thus be of greater value when it comes to deciding the most appropriate software and hardware that your small business needs. If deemed essential, they can also go as far as implementing your new programme as well as providing any necessary training.

7 important life lessons you learn in college
In college, you learn that if you have good friends, you’re not pressured into doing things you don’t want to do. Plus, you enhance your college experience by having friends you enjoy hanging out with.
Attending university has changed me so much; I mean, the life lessons you learn in college really mature you. And you don’t even realize that you’re learning because it’s not like someone asks you what life lessons you learned in college.
1. The Importance of Advocating for Yourself This is only one of the life lessons you learn in college, but I learned this lesson early in my sophomore yea. If I wanted to get anything done, I’d have to advocate for myself. Getting hold of someone was tough. Sometimes, they didn’t call or email you back. I learned to walk into their office and be persistent. It was the only way to get things accomplished. At first, it was frustrating to have to constantly chase down people, but if you need to get stuff done, you need to take it into your own hands. It’s important to learn to speak up and advocate for what you need and want, or else nothing will happen.
2. The Importance of Time Management Time management has been emphasized since the beginning of my college career, but it really is something you learn early on in college. It’s essential to succeeding in school and not turning into a stressed out mess or a sleep-deprived zombie. But time management is also important outside of school. We all need to make time outside of school and work.
3. The Importance of Perseverance It seems like every time I’m assigned a test, I don’t want to study for it. But the power of perseverance is essential to passing the class. Perseverance can be tough sometimes, especially when you really hate the class, but deep down, you know that you want to graduate and will work towards that goal. College teaches you that you have to persevere in life to get where you want to go.
4. The Importance of Good Friends I can’t emphasize enough the importance of being surrounded by good friends. In college, you learn that if you have good friends, you’re not pressured into doing things you don’t want to do. Plus, you enhance your college experience by having friends you enjoy hanging out with. They’re there to support you. Furthermore, no matter what age you are, you always want someone to have your back.
5. The Importance of Taking Responsibility When you go away to college, everything is your responsibility. Feeding yourself, doing your laundry, getting your homework done and going to sleep at a decent hour are all your responsibilities. You’re responsible for your actions too, good or bad. Your parents aren’t there to do things for you. You learn to be independent. This is a difficult lesson to learn, but one of the most essential.
6. The Importance of Good Conflict Resolution Skills I learned the value of good conflict resolution skills when I had to deal with a roommate that wasn’t on the same page as I was. We each had different values and habits and just didn’t get along. In college, you learn how to deal with these type of situations. This skill is essential in real life when you might not get along with a co-worker or someone else you come in contact with quite often.
7. The Importance of Good Communication Similar to my previous point, good communication skills are also honed during your college years. You learn what to say and how to say it. You don’t only learn good communication skills through oral presentations in class, but through interacting with other students. The way you communicate can affect your career opportunities and even your relationships. The thing is, we’re constantly learning and most of the time, we’re just unaware of it. I believe the life lessons listed above are super valuable.
Do you agree? Have you learned any of these life lessons from attending college? If so, which ones?
9 things you MUST consider before using drugs
There will always be a part of you that remembers how much fun you had and wishes that you could go back and do it again. This can become dangerous when you hit a period where you may be emotionally unstable.
Many people experimented with recreational drugs when they were younger. But there are some things that you weren’t told about doing these drugs at the time that will haunt you in the future.
1. Your kids are going to want to know all about what kinds of drugs you used to do. You are going to have to choose to lie to them about your past, or face it head on and be honest. If you are honest, they could believe that since you did it, it is okay for them to do drugs too.
2. At some point you are going to have to face the reality that you are using drugs to run away from something. Partying and having a good time while altering your mind was an escape, so you will need to face what you were escaping.
3. Some jobs such as the FBI, CIA, as a firefighter, or a police officer are next to impossible to get with past drug use.
4. You will have to pay more for life insurance because you don’t fit the “normal parameters” anymore. You could lie and say you have never done drugs, but the internet is a powerful tool and you could end up being denied coverage all together if you are caught.
5. There will always be a part of you that remembers how much fun you had and wishes that you could go back and do it again. This can become dangerous when you hit a period where you may be emotionally unstable.
6. You have to find new ways to get back into the mind-clearing state the drugs gave you.
7. If you do drugs, you speed up the aging process, and it will show as you get older. Wrinkles aren’t sexy.
8. That minor drug conviction you had as a minor could prevent you from traveling to other countries.
9. Now for the most obvious one…drugs can really ruin your mental health. Immediate mind-altering effects can end up taking years to get rid of sometimes.
Just remember, drugs are bad…

‘Amaechi remains suspended’
The Peoples Democratic Party has said the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, remains suspended from the pay.
The party also said it recognises Mr. Tony Nwoye as its governorship candidate for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
Acting National Secretary of the party, Dr. Charles Akitoye, stated this while speaking at the mini convention of the party. Akitoye, who was giving the secretariat report since he assumed office on June 20 following the resignation of some members of the National Working Committee of the party, insisted that discipline must be maintained in the party.
He said, “Governor Rotimi Amaechi was suspended due to anti-party activities and the suspension subsists. We have to maintain discipline in the party if we must move forward.” On Anambra State, he said the governorship primary that produced Nwoye was the one recognised by the party. He said the parallel primary, which was conducted by Mr. Ejike Oguebego , was not known to the party.
The unrecognised primary produced Sen. Andy Uba as the party’s flag bearer for the election. Akitoye said the party was unable to elect a substantive national secretary due to the court case, which he said stopped the party from doing so.
He also said because of the case, it was not possible to elect officers of the party from the zone and therefore, only statutory delegates from the zone voted at the convention.
Do you think this the best way to go?
