My personalities of the year

My #ManofTheYear >>>   Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Although I have never met him  before but those 30mins I spend to watch him preach on #AIT 7am every Sunday has positively affected my IQ. Am bigger, better and fully prepped up for the
new year. It got to a point during the year that I wondered how come David Ibiyeomie does not have a church in Abuja?? If I had found one I for don run comot for #NEBC *hope PastorG is not seeing this* (covers face). Hes usual slogan has got me going “it is not over until you win”

My #WomanofTheYear >>>> Dame Patience Jonathan (Mama Peace)

I couldn't think for long before arriving at my Woman of The Year. Despite all the fiery darts of the enemy, this woman is standing. This woman literally went to hell and came back. God in His infinite mercies did not allow the enemies to triumph over her.

I can still remember clearly the incidents that surrounded her trip to early in the year. I also listened to her testimony during the thanksgiving service organized for her. Only God could have delivered her.  Mama Peace ,please dedicate the rest of your life to God.

My #EnterprenueroftheYear >>> Mr Tony Elumelu

I want to setup my own foundation just like Tony Elumelu.  He is a man driven by vision, who sees his home country and his continent not without hope, but as opportunities that are competitive,
flourishing, and viable—opportunities with the capacity to have quantitative positive change for the continent’s people—for the few who dare.

The recent investment in the Ughelli power plant, will inject more power into the grid, getting the power plant to 65% of its 1000MW capacity by 2015. The juice processing plant in Benue, thanks to Teragro (a Transcorp subsidiary), could in time be a lifeline for fruit farmers in the middle belt, providing them with a buyer for fruit that would otherwise be left to rot on trees. He is a man who realises that time is short and there is a lot of work to do.

My #SportsmanoftheYear >>> Vincent Enyama

Vincent Enyeama (born 29 August 1982) is a Nigerian football goalkeeper. Since 2002, he has played for the national team of Nigeria. He currently plays for Lille OSC who he signed for in June 2011. The Nigeria international goalie won the award ahead of the likes of PSG's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edison Cavani, after raking in majority of the votes cast.  Enyeama raked in 71% of the votes, miles ahead of Ibrahimovic's 19% and Cavani's 10%. Enyeama has been impressive for Lille this season, since he was installed as the club's first choice goalkeeper by Rene Girard. The 31-year-old who has also been shortlisted for the Glo/CAF African footballer of the Year Award
has conceded in only two of the 13 games played this season.

He has great reflexes and is reliable when it comes to one-on-one situations.

My #Bloggerof theYear >>> Linda Ikeji

At a very tender age of 10 years, Linda began a hobby of writing. The fiction she wrote were
commended by her family and friends. As time went by she developed a passion for news.
Some few days back Linda posted a picture of a newly completed duplex she built for her dad in their village. I was so touched. I told God that I would love to do even something bigger for my parents.

So far Linda Ikeji has purchased two brand new cars, her dream car, which is a 2008 Toyota Camry
that she bought about in 2011. She said: ‘‘I’ve been dreaming about this car ever since I saw it two years ago, and I was finally able to pay for it two days ago, after making savings for nearly four months. The most exciting part is that I have a blog to show it off. At least now some people go no say my ‘levels don change’.
She of late obtained an Infinity FX 35 SUV costing over N8 million. A very sweet child to her parents, she acquired a multi-million 5-bedroom duplex for her parents in Surulere, Lagos.

The Air Passenger Rights Bill is presently on the floor of the House and it has passed second reading. Governor Adams Oshiomhole Survives Road Accident

Press Statement from Edo State Government

Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole survived a motor accident at Ewu Village along the ever-busy Benin-Auchi road in Edo State at about 9.45am Saturday, 28th December 2013 on his way back to Benin City from his Iyamho Village. The incident occurred at about 9.45am at Ewu, in Edo Central Senatorial District, when a Peugeot J5 Bus filled with tomatoes and plantains apparently lost control and rammed into the Governor’s Flag Car from the opposite direction before swerving into a roadside ditch.
Three vehicles in the Governor’s convoy were in front of the Governor’s Flag Car and had passed the Peugeot J5 Bus before it [J5 Bus] had direct impact with the Governor’s car, which had the Governor, his Aide-De-Camp [ADC] and his Driver as occupants. The Governor’s Car was badly affected but both occupants of the Peugeot J5 Bus and that of the Governor’s sustained no injuries.
The Peugeot J5 Bus was following a truck that was descending the Ewu Slope when it suddenly veered off into the Governor’s lane from the opposite direction and directly impacted on the Governor’s vehicle, apparently because of brake failure. The good story is that nobody sustained injuries in both vehicles. The Comrade Governor is hale and hearty, his ADC and other occupants of the Peugeot J5 are also in good condition.

The incident has been reported to the Divisional Police Station at Ewu for further investigation. This is to assure all good people of Edo State that there is no cause for alarm. Their loving Comrade Governor is fine, hale and hearty as well as other occupants of the other affected vehicle. The Comrade Governor is wishing everyone a prosperous new year ahead.
Signed
Prince Kassim Afegbua

My Dear Iyabo Obasanjo

First off, it is still unclear whether or not you wrote that open letter to your father – ex-President Olusegun Obansanjo – circulating in the media. You failure to come forward to affirm or refute the letter and its contents have forced many to believe that you indeed, penned that piece.

Personally, I’ve read the letter, and just can’t hide my disappointment. I’m particularly disappointed because everyone that has read it, and will ever read it must have had issues with their own dads at some point in their lives. Some even have more disastrous relationships with their fathers or parents. Some don’t even know their parents and earnestly pray to have somebody to call father, no matter how irresponsible he may be. I don’t know if you have ever been to the orphanages. Please do…You will understand.
To tell you the truth, throwing mud at your father’s white garment in the village square is the least effective way of redressing such complex family squabbles. What you have done is sacrilegious. It shows bad upbringing and want of character. It puts a big question mark on the academic background and intellectual quality of the author. By all known cultural, social and global standards, your open letter and its contents are very inappropriate.

I’m sure you are a mother, a busy mother for that matter. You have been a senator, commissioner, business woman et al. That shows how busy you must have been. That also shows you can’t  boast of having been a 100% effective mum to your kids. There must habe been times your professional work or political schedules clashed with your wifely/motherly routine. And as such, it will be wrong to claim that you have been there for your children and family EVERYTIME they needed you. But that doesn’t make you a bad mum. That doesn’t mean you have failed or neglected your motherly roles. That doesn’t also mean you love your family any less.

I’m sure you worked hard and made all these sacrifices for the sake of your children; your family.  How would you feel if they turn around and throw mud at you, like you are doing to your father? How would you react to a mail in the media tomorrow authored by your own son, accusing you of neglect, or prioritizing your political pursuits far above your motherly obligations? Would you rather rejoice? The same people you toiled for?

I won’t bother to go into the contents of your mail, simply because its purely a private family affair, which ought not to be in the public domain in the first place. But please be reminded that your political progress and achievements so far were enabled and powered by your surname – OBASANJO!  The plethora of lawsuits and trials you escaped during the Senate Health Committee scandals are thankfully attributable to your last name. You literally walked away from legal prosecution, and a highly-probable conviction. It wasn’t magic. So, the freedom you enjoy today, is just on borrowed time. It shouldn’t be.

Let me conclude by advising that family disputes should never be used to settle political scores and mundane differences. Its wrong!!! It is not the duty of a daughter to win more enemies for his father. In fact, it is a TABOO. Many of your father’s real and imagined enemies must have been amused by your letter. But in their minds, they tremble at the mere thought of having a child like you.  They would wish to be childless than to have a child that would bring them nothing but disgrace. Nobody wants that. And you too!
Let political scores be settled politically. But don’t allow yourself to be used as a willing smear tool in the hands of forces against your own father. This is wrong!!! You have elders, uncles, brothers, sisters, and a host of relatives to complain to. There are traditional and cultural institutions for redressing such family grievances. Use them!

Please remember that even the people you write and complain to, may have worse family problems. Look at all the great men in history: Prince of Wales, Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, MKO Abiola, Fela Anikulapo Kuti … name them…they all had family problems…You are not the first, and won’t be the last. Please my dear sister, don’t invite curses upon your innocent head.
And finally, of all the commandments in the Bible, there is only one with a promise: Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days may be long. So says the holy scripture. She who hath ears, let her hear.
May God help you to do the right thing…
Goodbye sister,
VIO

Satellite unveils coldest place on earth

SCIENTISTS recently recorded the lowest temperatures on Earth at a desolate and remote ice plateau in East Antarctica, trumping a record set in 1983 and uncovering a new puzzle about the ice-covered continent. Ted Scambos, lead scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), and his team found temperatures from −92 to −94 degrees Celsius (−134 to −137 degrees Fahrenheit) in a 1,000-kilometer long swath on the highest section of the East Antarctic ice divide.

The measurements were made between 2003 and 2013 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on board NASA’s Aqua satellite and during the 2013 Southern Hemisphere winter by Landsat 8, a new satellite launched early this year by NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey.

“I’ve never been in conditions that cold and I hope I never am,” Scambos said. “I am told that every breath is painful and you have to be extremely careful not to freeze part of your throat or lungs when inhaling.” The record temperatures are several degrees colder than the previous record of −89.2 degrees Celsius (−128.6 degrees Fahrenheit) measured on July 21, 1983 at the Vostok Research Station in East Antarctica.

They are far colder than the lowest recorded temperature in the United States, measured at −62 degrees Celsius (−79.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in Alaska, in northern Asia at -68 degrees Celsius (−90.4 degrees Fahrenheit), or even at the summit of the Greenland Ice Sheet at -75 degrees Celsius (−103 degrees Fahrenheit).

Food, Your Defence Against Diseases

Aside the running battle against sub-standard and adulterated drugs by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), it cannot be said with all certainty that the curative and preventive attributes of these medicines in our drug stores would always be assured.

Even the economic challenges facing people have led to poorer feeding and nutrition. However, the food sources of nutrients that serve as medicine to the body can be largely relied on to help proper body metabolism.
Knowing the food to eat in place of drugs is as good as extending one’s life span, even if temporarily. Whether in normal course of ill health or in severe cases of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) virus infection, nutrients from fruits and vegetables have proved to be sources of reliable prophylactics. Where there is an already weakened immune system by HIV or other diseases, nutritionists agree that a nutritious diet can help maintain a proper functioning of the body.

Find below a list of disease conditions that can be handled by food nutrients:

Anaemia Eat more iron-rich foods such as animal products (eggs, fish, meat and liver), green leafy vegetables (collard green, spinach), legumes (beans, lentils, groundnuts) nuts, oil seeds and fortified cereals Take iron supplements Fever Eat soups rich in foods that give energy and nutrients like maize, potato and carrot; drink plenty of liquid Drink teas from lemon, guava and gum tree Drink more than usual, beyond thirst Eat small, frequent meals as tolerated Nausea and Vomiting Eat small and frequent meals

Eat food such as soup, unsweetened porridge, and fruit such as bananas Eat slightly salted and dry foods such as crackers to calm the stomach Drink herbal teas lemon juice in hot water Avoid spicy and fatty foods Avoid alcohol Drink plenty of liquids- cleaned boiled water Thrush (disease of the mouth) Eat soft, mashed foods such as carrots, scrambled eggs, mashed potato, banana, soups and porridge Eat cold or room-temperature foods Avoid spicy, salty or sticky foods; these may initiate mouth sores

Avoid alcohol and drink plenty of liquids Anorexia (loss of appetite) Stimulate appetite by eating favourite foods Eat small amounts of food more often Select foods that are more energy dense Avoid strong-smelling foods Diarrhoea Drink a lot of fluids (soups, diluted fruit juices, boiled water and light herbal teas) to avoid dehydration Avoid strong citrus fruits (orange, lemon) because they may irritate the stomach

Consume foods rich in soluble fibre (millet, banana, peas, lentils) to help retain fluids Consume fermented foods such as yoghurt and porridges Consume easily digestible foods such as rice, millet, maize, potato, sweet potato and crackers

4 Relationship Desires that Make Men Commit

1.The Desire to Protect Men, whether overt in nature or well-hidden, are hard-wired to protect. While the damsel-in-distress act is centuries out-dated and annoying at best, allowing your man to see your vulnerable side will unlock his natural instinct to nurture and protect you in his own unique way. Little things like asking his opinion about vacation sites or stock options telegraph that you value his intellect and feel he has your best interests at heart. Asking him to do concrete tasks like changing a light bulb or fixing a broken step will build his sense of accomplishment and support your high regard for his physical attributes. Playing up your feminine figure with soft, delicate fabrics will trigger his infatuation and accentuate the balance that you provide. Ladies, feel free to traipse about in that lacy, frilly blouse or sashay nonchalantly in that slinky dress. It will drive him crazy!

2.The Desire for Freedom Support a man’s need to maintain his freedom and identity independent of you. “By making it clear that you don’t expect your guy to change, he’ll feel like you truly understand him but don’t threaten his sense of self,” says Dan Neuharth, PhD, author of Secrets You Keep from Yourself. If you surprise him with the unexpected, you’ll keep him guessing and he’ll be pining for you without even knowing it. Reassure your man that you foster his need for freedom. Men hate feeling “tied down,” so turning down occasional plans with him will let him know that you have a life separate from him. He just might start wondering what you’re doing and pursue you more. Share your own thoughts and fears about commitment so that he feels you identify with his qualms about moving forward more seriously in the relationship. Last, but certainly not least, respect his privacy. Show that you understand that his physical space signifies his independence and stay out of his drawers and away from his phone when it rings.

3.The Desire to Shine Even the most confident of men have bouts of insecurity and self-doubt. Feed his need to feel respected and appreciated by “increasing self-esteem, both internally and in the eyes of others,” says Dr. Dobransky, “and naturally he’ll want to be attached to you.” Be a source of light even during the most stressful of times by dragging him out of the house when he’s crabby, going to a cheesy movie together, or by taking silly pictures of each other. Brain-teasers like Scrabble, puzzles, and chess challenge his mental skills and prove that you have superb problem-solving abilities, subconsciously swaying his internal desire to carry on his genes with you. Always speak and act with confidence and poise which shows actively that you are a precious jewel to be cherished.

4.The Desire for Comfort Men want to feel the comfort of having a partner who complements their unique personality and with whom they enjoy spending time. Rekindle the feeling of falling in love by making your man feel like the two of you “just fit.” Primp in front of him to enhance intimacy, since this is a special moment only he has the pleasure of witnessing. In males, the enticing smell of food incites spikes in oxytocin levels. The more often the two of you cook together, the more he will associate you with the good feelings he gets from eating. Whoever it was that said “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” was right! Make him feel welcome at your home by stocking up on brands and items he uses at his own place. Subconsciously, he’ll feel at home and see you as a source of safety and security.

There are a few factors such as career challenges and pure panic that cause a man to take a step back from the ledge of commitment and question whether or not he’s ready to take the leap, but by considering these four male relationship desires, the odds are in your favor that he’ll realize he hasn’t just fallen in love with you but he’s also committed to being with you.

Knowing these unique traits that determine a man’s ability to commit doesn’t automatically make the road to a successful, loving relationship an easy one, but it does provide an aerial view of the terrain to help avoid possible potholes and roadblocks along the way. Love in its ability to alter the mental and physical processes of the mind and body proves its power and the need to cherish it as a unifying force.

Mountain of Fire begins crusade to close all beer parlors in Lagos

Dr Daniel Olukoya-led Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries church, MFM, will today Dec. 19th begin a crusade to close down all beer parlor outlets in Lagos and turn them into their praying centres.

The church says it took the decision to close down beer parlors because alcohol consumption & crime go hand in hand.

They say the action would ultimately help depopulate the kingdom of darkness. Ogba, Ikeja is their kickoff base, so all you beer drinkers in that area, make una get ready.

Speaking on the strategy to be adopted, Pastor Aderemi Oseni, Regional Pastor for Region 32 MFM Ogba, Lagos, he said; "We want to convert beer parlours into our praying centres. At the end of the crusade, the kingdom of darkness would be depopulated completely.

I am aware that powers of darkness have converted major roads to shrines in this environment. We want to pull down all shrines". The crusade, tagged 'Overcoming The Storm' will begin today 19 December.

The Federal Government has released the 2012 National HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health Survey-Plus which indicates that Nigeria now has HIV prevalence rate of 3.4 per cent.

The annual survey, which was conducted to monitor the HIV/AIDS epidemic among the country’s population, also monitors other sexual and reproductive health indicators.

Rivers State is leading other states of the country with a prevalence rate of 15.2 per cent.

The survey indicated that, “Compared with the 3.6 per cent in 2007, about 3.4 per cent of Nigerians are currently living with HIV/AIDS, with 3.2 per cent in urban and 3.6 per cent in the rural areas; 2.9 per cent among young people aged 15-19 years.”

Taraba State ranked second with a prevalence rate of 10.5 per cent, followed by Kaduna State with 9.2 per cent; Nasarawa state, 8.1 per cent and the Federal Capital Territory with 7.5 per cent.

8 Mistakes Women Make When They Are In Love

There are Crazy things women do to mess up their love lives, but they can avoid them by following some simple advice:

 1. LIVE YOUR LIFE THROUGH YOUR MAN: Women who let a man control the relationship eventually feel cheated and angry. Be the best you can be in your own right. You need to take a stand for things in your life, and in the relationship that you want. Do not wrap your whole life around his.

 2. SETTLING FOR A MAN: Desperate women settle for any man. Do not settle for anyone less than you deserve. It may take longer to find the right guy but you will not be stuck with a fool. Do not act desperate, good men can smell the desperation kms away. Just be confident, be yourself and believe that the right man will come along, because he will.

 3. CONFUSING PASSION FOR LOVE: Too many women made love out of a feeling of emptiness or hunger for approval. The result: Disaster. Sex too soon can make you feel worthless. Wait and choose a partner you have gotten to like as a person first. Men actually like women MORE if they withhold sex for a while because they deem you Marriage material. No man wants to get involved in a serious relationship with an EASY woman.

 4. DO NOT LIVE TOGETHER BEFORE MARRIAGE: Yeah, this sounds old school, outdated and crazy. Couples who live together before marriage are one third more likely to break up within 10 years. Wait until the two of you know, love and respect each other. Then get married. Make a commitment, then move in. Do not move in without the commitment.

 5. EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM A MAN: Women with low self esteem expect marriage to bring total fulfillment. But they are doomed to disappointment when Prince Charming does not meet expectations. Choose a compatible mate, not a man you think will solve your problems. Ask any married woman. Men can not, and do not, solve all your problems.

6. HAVING A BABY FOR THE WRONG REASON: Women who have a child to fix a broken relationship often become trapped with a man they should dump. Make an intelligent decision about having a child. You have the power over you own body. Do NOT have a baby just to keep a man in a relationship with you. That spells DOOM and DISASTER.

 7. HAVING LOW STANDARDS: Over the years the standards and requirements of Women have lowered. Men know that and have taken advantage of it. Many women do not require anything of a man. So many standards have been lowered by women that now a man does not have to climb over a very high bar to get to her. So now you have more men who can get away with more things with more women without any repercussions. Do not accept less than you deserve. And you deserve everything.

 8. NOT LOVING YOURSELF: Many women sacrifice everything just to please a man, whether its your Boyfriend or Husband. Learn to place yourself first in life and be happy first before transferring the happiness to someone else. Dont live your life for someone else. Life is short, you need to be happy.

We are restoring Oyo Civil Service’s lost glory-Ajimobi

Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has says his administration’s commitment to the restoration of the lost glory of the state’s Civil Service remains sacrosanct. The governor said the commitment was aimed at ensuring professionalism, and a well-motivate and highly skilled workforce.

The governor stated this at the public presentation of a book entitled “We Served our Generation: Perspectives and Reflections on Western Nigerian Civil Service’’, at the University of Ibadan.

The book was put together by the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, Oyo and Osun states. He said that in the last two and half years, the state government created a robust workforce with renewed focus on performance and quality service delivery.

“The strategy employed to achieve this renewed commitment was based on a pivot of restoring civil servants’ pride in themselves as the engine room of government and governance. “

This, we carried out through massive governmental interest in the career development of all civil and public servants,’’ the governor said. Ajimobi stated that till date, no government in the history of the state had trained civil servants within and outside the country as his administration had done.

He said his administration also ensured good working environment, purposeful leadership for the civil service, as well as ensured civil servants’ promotion as at when due. The governor said that obsolete rules and regulations in the service had been reviewed through encouragement of ICT-driven service. “The performance of this administration, for which we get kudos all over the world, could only have been achieved with a robust civil service serving as the engine room of our policies and programmes.’’

Acknowledging the past contributions of retired heads of service and permanent secretaries to the civil service, Ajimobi, however, noted that what was being witnessed in the public service fell short of the tenets they laid down.

He attributed this to what he called a generational and communicational gap between the past and the present. He expressed the belief that the book would not only act as a compass to the future of public service, but would also go a long way in bridging the gap and ultimately have positive impact on people’s lives.

NOLLYWOOD AT 20 AWARDS NIGHT: A SHAM OF A SHAME BY CHARLES NOVIA

I may not be liked much within my constituency after this critique but then, if I was begging to be liked by anyone, my objectivity would have been compromised a long time ago. I always say that we must learn to tell ourselves the truth no matter whose ox is gored.

That is the only way to move forward in Nollywood. We must rise above the glamour and hype and begin to get things right. The Nollywood @ 20 Awards Night held on the 27th of November 2013 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos.

In the best of cases, that hotel would have been superb for a show of that magnitude but on this occassion, the hotel itself aided the sloppiness of the show by incessant and disgraceful power cuts and interruptions within the show.

I counted such power cuts three times and it was more shameful when some young group of dancers were in the middle of their dance routine on stage! Hadn’t there been a year long hype around this event? Hadn’t we been inundated with television commercials on major national and satellite television stations asking people to prepare for a spectacular celebration? If this event was intended to be the Mother of all Nollywood Celebrations, then all we witnessed last night was an abortion and a stillbirth rolled into one. From the time-wasting red carpet event before the show which was scheduled for 5 pm but was behind schedule, to the avoidable goofs of the whole show, one can only shake one’s head in derision. This wasn’t Nollywood at 20. This was Nollywood at 2! The faux pas of the National Anthem which started the show prepared us all for a night of ineptitude. Singer, Mor Okonkwo, who is my friend (but I told her I would be hard on her in my review anyway) was announced by the compere, Olisa Adibua,to come up to sing the National Anthem.

As she got on stage, the DJ started playing the instrumental of the Anthem. Mor gave a few false notes and shrieked as she ran backstage into the microphone, ‘Stop the music!’. The guests were shocked and I caught the eyes of some foreign diplomats shaking their heads as if to say, ‘Oh well, it’s Nigeria for you…’. An embarassed Mor sat next to me through the evening and had to explain to a few people who walked up to her how it was supposed to be an acapella rendition and not the instrumental version the DJ trussed on her. I told her that she ‘yabbed’.

‘So, if the President was present in the hall, you would have done the same? That is a gross disrespect of the National Anthem!’ I summised. Sorry, Mor. I hope you take this in good faith but if you don’t ….well…( shrug, shrug) If Mor’s Mistake was the appetiser, some shoddy stuff which came after was the indisgestive full course. I do not wish to waste my time writing about avoidable flops but I just need to ask if there was a PROFESSIONAL Stage Manager or event planner for that show? Truth be told, I have attended better kindergarten birthday parties which were well organised than what I witnessed last night. Because of the lack of co-ordination, comperes Olisa Adibua and Marian Anazodo had a herculean task trying to prove their mettle which shouldn’t have been the case in the first place. Awards were given to deserving Nollywood Personalities who have contributed to the development of the industry over the years. Maybe that was the only good part of the show.

Even at that, the awards presentation looked like a charade and lacked the power of what an awards presentation should be. The hall was empty before the show reached its prime, if there was an intended prime part of the show. I guess many guests had reached the limits of their patience. But it is not all knocks for the organisers of the event.

I must commend them for bringing together all the protagonists of the Nollywood Story in one fell swoop. They did it before at the first dinner held on November 4th , which was a better sham than last night’s event. But bringing together major components of Nollywood to a Night of Guffaws and ‘Grin-and-bear-it moments’ wipes away the efforts the organisers made to host a great event. You know what the event really lacked?

Almost everything to make a good show. If the organsers are back-slapping themselves for a job well-done in their wildest imagination, then some people should be punching some of their faces for reasons I have highlighted above. It seemed to me that the event was planned the way a mediocre Nollywood movie is planned; ‘Kpa, Kpa, Kpa…make we do am!’ without giving a f..f..f..farthing about corporate and general perception.

Guys, we don pass that level. What the event tells me most is that the old guard in Nollywood either need to sit up or shift out. You can’t be messing with people’s expectations. You just can’t. All this chest beating about who and who started the industry is only good for the History Channel. Guys, you need to switch to the Discovery Channel if you don’t want to be counted among the dinosaurs soon. I am proudly Nollywood. My blogazine, charlesnoviadaily.com is a medium to advance Nollywood. But I cannot be proud of a charade.

Oh, for those who will vilify me for attacking my own constituency, take a prickly seat. I am attacking the personalities who try to put the industry to perfidy. I want and strive to be part of the solution and not the parallax of the problems.

With all the expectations for the event, it came and went like a promising stud who disappoints the expectatant Nymph with a pre-mature ejaculation! Sadly, only one person enjoyed the act itself ; the stud. Talk about ‘Coming Soon!’. Thankfully, there will be no ‘Part 2′ of this kind of shit.

And in case some upstart is planning ‘Nollywood at 25′, don’t even try it. Not with the crap of last night.

OBAMA APPEARS IN LEATHER JACKETS!

Looks like someone made out like a bandit at Black Friday sales. President Obama made his traditional bookstore stop this weekend, browsing local shop Politics & Prose in northwest Washington, D.C. on what’s come to be known as Small Business Saturday.

But it would appear the president did well on Black Friday, too, or at least upgraded his wardrobe as of late: He was wearing a trim, brown leather jacket and jeans that did not appear to be light, baggy “dad” jeans.

He might have been channeling his daughters, who looked stylish in their own casual wear. (Are those Uggs we spy on Sasha?) But we’re impressed by POTUS nonetheless, who looked cool and at ease as he picked up several books, including “Collision Low Crossers: A Year Inside the Turbulent World of NFL Football,” “Harold and the Purple Crayon” and “Ragtime” by E. L. Doctorow.

President Obama, if this new laid-back look is a sign of things to come (in the style department, at least), we’re pretty darn excited about 2014.

Ronaldo leads tributes to Mandela

Mandela's reputation grew to include his ability to inspire sports teams to victory simply with his presence, known as "Madiba magic."

After much anticipation and speculation that he would remain absent as his family continued to mourn the 13-year-old Zenani Mandela, he attended the World Cup's closing ceremonies amid a thunderous mix of vuvuzelas and roars from the crowd.

Players across the globe expressed their grief following the news, Cristiano Ronaldo leading the football community's tributes for Mandela on social media,

11 Things You’re Doing That Could Cause You To Die Young

Are you sitting down while reading this?
Well that could be shortening your lifespan.

Let’s be honest: From the moment we’re born, we’re all dying just as we’re living. But certain mundane things we do every day may actually be helping us get there faster. None of this means we should even try to eliminate these behaviors from our lives entirely, but it’s proof that overdoing anything, even when seemingly innocuous, can have serious impacts on our health.

Below is a round up of 11 everyday things you’re probably doing that could potentially shorten your lifespan.

1. You’re having a hard time finding love.
Having a difficult time finding a mate can shave off months of your life, while being single for prolonged periods of time could cost you a whole decade. A study found that communities with gender ratios skewing significantly more male or female caused the minority sex to have shorter lifespans. Even when exposed to short time frames of competition, such as attending a high school entirely of one gender, participants were found to have generally shorter lives.
On top of all this, another study found that never getting married could increase risk of death over a lifetime by 32 percent, and led to the previously mentioned loss of a decade.
2. You’re sitting down for more than a few hours every day.
Two whole years of your life could be cut just from sitting more than three hours a day. Australian researchers found that even regular exercise couldn’t deter the potential negative effects of sitting for long stretches of time. Another study published in the JAMA Internal Medicine found that sitting for more than 11 hours a day increased the risk of death by 40 percent over the next three years, compared to sitting for under four hours a day. Time to get that stand-up desk.
3. No Friends.
People with weak social connections were found to die at much higher rates than their counterparts, accordingto research. The same researchers found that prolonged loneliness could be as bad for your lifespan as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
On top of all this, elderly people with large circles of friends were found to be 22 percent less likely to die over a tested study period, and those social connections generally promote brain health in aging brains.
4. You’re vegging out in front of your TV.
Watching just two hours of television a day can lead to an increased risk of premature death, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, according to Harvard researchers. The negative effects of watching television seem to overlap with the potential negative effects of sitting too much, but watching television seems to make the negative effects of sitting even worse. According to the New York Times, “every single hour of television watched after the age of 25 reduces the viewer’s life expectancy by 21.8 minutes.”
5. You’re eating too much unhealthy food.
Perhaps this sounds obvious, but the truth is that so many of us continue to do it. As far as what foods to especially avoid, eating red meat seems to shorten life expectancy by as much as 20 percent when eating extra portions.
6. You’re still looking for a job.
Being unemployed can increase a person’s risk of premature death by 63 percent. Other more specific studies found that “the two factors most strongly associated with higher death rates were smoking and not having a job.” Another found that older people who lost their jobs during the recession could have seen their lifespan decrease by as many as three years.
7. You’re dealing with a long commute.
Commutes of about an hour have been found to increase stress and have been linked to the same negative effects as sitting. Long commutes also reduce the likelihood that individuals will consistently participate in health related activities. The greatest lifespan risk is with female commuters, who were found to have significantly shorter lifespans after consistently commuting for 31 miles or more. The cause for the dip in female life expectancies has been the topic of much speculation lately, but while the Swedish research was able to link commuting to obesity, insomnia and a higher rate of divorce, it wasn’t able to pinpoint why female mortality rates are higher.
8. You’re having a dry-spell.
A study among men found that failing to orgasm for extended periods of time can potentially cause your mortality rate to be 50 percent higher than for those who have frequent orgasms. This result was found even when controlling for factors such as age, smoking, and social class. On the opposite spectrum, orgasms have been linked to quite a few additional health benefits.
9. You’re putting up with annoying co-workers.
Missing out on strong connections with your co-workers can also potentially mean missing out on a longer life. Peer social support, which could represent how well a participant is socially integrated in his or her employment context, is a potent predictor of the risk of all causes of mortality. Although having feelings of encouragement coming from bosses and managers didn’t seem to affect the subjects’ lifespans, those who reported feelings of low social support at work were 2.4 times more likely to die over the study period.
10. You’re not sleeping enough (or maybe too much?)
Harvard Medical School points out that research has shown that life expectancies significantly decrease in subjects who average less than five or more than nine hours a night.
Most of us suffer from too little rather than too much sleep, but research suggests there truly is a sleep “sweet spot” — at least if you’re primarily concerned about living for as long as possible.
Chronic lack of sleep is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancers, dementia, cognitive and memory problems, weight gain and early death. And some research shows that too much (dramatically, unusually too much) regular sleep could be problematic as well.
Research has also shown that we need an average of eight hours to function optimally, but another, somewhat controversial study found that getting more than seven hours of sleep a night has been linked to shortened lifespans.
11. You’re afraid of death or that you won’t live for as long as you’d like.
This is a painful paradox. A fear of a shortened lifespans, or Thanatophobia, can potentially end up causing – a shortened lifespan. A 2012 study on cancer patients ended up finding that, “life expectancy was perceived as shortened in patients with death anxiety.”
Outside of cancer patients, an intense fear of death can also lead to a three to five times increase in the risk of cardiovascular ailments, according to research on Americans who feared death from another terrorist attack following Sept. 11, 2001. Although a slight fear of death has been shown to have positive benefits, like an increase in exercise and healthy eating, the fear has been shown to significantly affect lifespans, especially in adults nearing the age of being considered elderly. These effects can also be correlated to especially paranoid people having weaker connections with society and increased feelings of alienation – the negative effects of which were both discussed above.

4 Healthy Foods That Are Bad For Your Teeth

There are some healthy food that are actually bad for our teeth this goes for food with high sugary content. Sugar is bad for the teeth, it causes it to decay. A celebrity cosmetic dentist, Dr. Joseph Banker insists it is best to brush after eating these foods, he added that we seem to forget how much sugar is present in foods we deem healthy.
Here are 4 healthy food that are bad for the teeth:

Chewable Vitamins Chewable vitamins seem a healthy idea but in reality they are packed with sugar (the reason they taste good in the first place). While chewing these vitamins they stick to corners of our mouth and teeth which gives bacteria a comfy environment to grow, this results in cavities which is bad for the teeth.

Dried Fruit
Dried fruits are worse because they contain more concentrated sugar than already present before drying! They also tend to stick to the teeth which latter turns acidic; this erodes the enamel. Definitely not healthy for the teeth

Citrus We should know acid/ sugar damage the teeth.
Acid eats away the tooth enamel while the sugar breeds oral bacteria. Both citrus fruits and juice have high sugar concentration and are acidic and all these damage the teeth over time. Some citrus fruits have the same sugar content as soda which are equally bad for the teeth.

Bananas Banana reduces the flow of saliva; they are high in sugar and sticky. They also cling to the teeth. Alternatively, firm, crunchy fruits actually prevent tooth decay because they buffer the acid and wash away food particles with their high water content.

Include more nuts and raw vegetables in your diet. Raw veggies and nuts can act as a scrubbing agent because they are coarse, this cleans the teeth, stimulate and promote the flow of saliva which removes stains and plagues.

Mercy Johnson is Nollywood's Actress year

For those who may not agree with me on the choice of actresses in this list, you are free to draw your own conclusions. However, note that this is not a list of ‘The Top Actresses in Nollywood based on over-exposure on Red Carpets’ or some whimsical fan base.

This list is based on talent, characterisation, body of artistic work for the year in review and most of all interpretation of the roles the actresses played. I watched a number of films this year and as many as were being churned out in all the zones, I had to pin-point my search to specifics.

None was judged on nebulous criteria such as ‘how many years one has spent acting’ or awards won in other climes in the year in question. Whether new or old, the actresses on this list gave a rousing performance in 2013 and I applaud them. So, here are the Best 5 Nollywood Actresses in 2013.

NUMBER 5: RITA DOMINIC
Rita had a good year. Winning ‘Best Actress’ a couple of times (among many nominations ) for the movie ‘The Meeting’. I also watched her in another recently released movie, ‘Finding Mercy’ but felt that she gave a listless and lukewarm performance in that flick. In ‘The Meeting’, Rita was smoking.

I would say that for the first time since I have been seeing her in movies, she found the right script which explored her acting depths. Rita Dominic has more to prove in Nollywood, either as an actress or as a Producer.

If it is the former, then she has to be careful about her choice of scripts from now on because there might be false slips ahead. A good actress anyday, she is.

NUMBER 4: YVONNE OKORO
Now this would raise eyebrows with people asking if Yvonne is from Nollywood since she is associated more with Ghana. Nomencletures do not matter to me. Nollywood is a global brand and is a huge platform for all African actors to make their mark. I must confess that I had not watched much of Yvonne’s movies before ‘The Contract’.
I just knew her name from a few social media buzz which was neither here nor there for me. So when I watched her performance in ‘The Contract’, my curiousity gave way to admiration. She interpreted the role quite well.

There was an almost effortless transistion of moods and emotions in her characterisation and she had the audience eating out of the palms of her hands all through the movie.

NUMBER 3: DAMILOLA ADEGBITE A surprise resignation from ‘TINSEL’in 2012 , made most people wonder if Damilola knew what she was doing. She gave reasons for leaving the televsion serial; to concentrate on her acting career.

Watching her in Michelle Bello’s ‘Flower Girl’ brought home the wisdom in her career curve. I have always held the notion that Damilola has a powerful screen presence. There’s something sultry and appealing about her looks on screen. Very few actors have that aura. In Damilola’s case, I thought it wasn’t yet explored to the maximum.

In ‘Flower Girl’, that screen aura combined with a visible attempt at internalisation and visualisation by Damilola in her role, made many see her in a whole new light. Finally, the stirrings of a Super Actress is beginning to show.

 NUMBER 2: TAMARA ETIENO
Many people would not remember her name and it is likely many would have forgotten her as the winner of ‘The Next Movie Star’ Reality show a couple of years back Tamara was simply awesome in the movie ‘Desperate Housegirls’!

She gave an organic and jaw-dropping performance which must her won her new fans and etched her name somewhere on the consciousness of movie lovers. There was a closeness to method acting when watching her in ‘Desperate Housegirls’ and she must be commended for making acting interesting again especially as we have been assailed with talentless actors and actresses in the past few years. I predict that Tamara is going to shine in a few months

NUMBER 1: MERCY JOHNSON

Mercy would be my number one choice for ‘Best Actress’ in 2013. She has simply been awesome in the her movies this year. There’s something ultra-natural and organic about Mercy Johnson which confounds even her critics.

She can act. She delivers. In four movies I watched in 2013, which she starred in, she was the epitome of delightful characterisation. Watch her in the ‘Dumebi’ spawn of movies and you would appreciate how her talent has evolved since she came back from her Maternity Break.

Mercy is a chameleonic actress, one with the uncanny ability to immerse herself in her roles. She can play the victimised House Maid in one movie and switch to the Lady Boss in the next. In fact, if the role suits her, she comes out smoking. She is arguably the Best Actress for 2013.
You can quote me on that.

Well I like MercyJohnson anyday........
